Belfast Airport - Exterior Works

OHM Engineering was engaged to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the front entrance at Belfast International Airport. Our team delivered high-quality external improvements that aligned with the airport’s standards for public safety, durability, and contemporary design. The work included the following elements:

Window Replacement & Leak Remediation

Another fantastic project completed by OH&M. We were brought in to resolve a number of leaks within the airport, which led to a full window replacement programme. The team carried out the complete removal of all existing windows and installed brand new units along with new window mullions throughout.

All powder-coated flashings were carefully removed, replaced, and fully sealed to ensure a high-quality, long-lasting finish. The end result is a top-class job that we’re extremely proud of.

This project came with a very tight turnaround and added pressure, as all works were carried out right on the edge of a live runway. Every delivery had to be precisely coordinated around aircraft movements, with some works completed during night shifts to keep everything running smoothly.
As always, everything was carefully planned and executed to perfection by our team.
Something new for us — and plenty more to come.

Starbucks Unit

We started with a full core strip-out of the old Starbucks unit, removing ceilings, walls, floors, furniture—everything back to shell. From there, we supplied the full labour package to deliver a complete fit-out for the new Flex & Soda restaurant.
Our team carried out all wall installations, dry lining, sanding, and painting to a top-class finish. We fitted all new furniture, supplied skilled joiners, and completed the tiling to an exceptional standard—real feature work that speaks for itself in the photos.

Following that, we installed the full kitchen, completed final furniture installs, and carried out a high-level clean. Just before opening, our cleaning team finished with a full sparkle clean to make sure everything was absolutely perfect for handover.

This project demanded long days and late nights in a live airport environment, and the effort from every operative and supervisor was second to none.

Curtain Walling Upgrade & Glazing Replacement

Another fantastic job completed at Belfast International Airport by the OH&M team.
We were up against a large task with very tight timelines, but in just 3 weeks we successfully removed all old windows and mullions and replaced them with new laminated glass throughout. We also installed new pressure plates, powder-coated flashings, and added all new felt for extra protection against leaks.

Every element of this job had to be carefully planned and delivered in a live airport environment — including working alongside active runways, which brought its own challenges. To make things even tougher, the weather was against us most days. With constant rain, it became a case of one pane out, one pane straight back in — no room for error.

Massive credit to our site team for their hard work, precision, and commitment under pressure. We’re extremely proud of the standard delivered once again.

Runway Infrastructure – 3m³ Bolt Box Installation

Delivering 3m x 3m x 3m bolt boxes on a live runway at Belfast International Airport is no ordinary task. The environment alone raises the bar — with aircraft operating nearby and strict aviation regulations governing every movement on site.

This project was fully planned and coordinated prior to commencement, ensuring works could proceed safely and efficiently within an active runway setting.

The scope included:

  • Clearly marked and precision-cut excavations

  • Safe removal and disposal of spoil while navigating a live runway

  • Accurate frame setting and controlled concrete pours

  • Precise positioning of bolt boxes

  • Installation of fabricated, galvanised and painted heavy-duty protective barriers

Every stage of the works reflects the standards required for aviation infrastructure.

Key strengths demonstrated on this project:

  • Precision & Clean Execution – Neat cutting, controlled pours, and accurate setting ensure structural integrity and compliance.

  • Safety & Coordination – Operating plant, vehicles, and personnel in a live runway environment required meticulous planning and communication.

  • Long-Term Durability – Galvanised and painted barriers, cored holes, and fitted reinforcement cages ensure performance without compromise.

  • Professional Finish – Built not only to function, but to meet strict airport and aviation standards.

This project highlights OH&M’s capability to deliver complex infrastructure works in high-risk, high-regulation environments — where precision, safety, and reliability are non-negotiable.

Airside Branding Installation

Another WE project has been successfully completed to a high standard at Belfast International Airport by the OH&M team. The works involved specialist branding installation using hot metal application techniques, requiring precision, control, and strict adherence to safety procedures within a live airport environment. The process saw several hundred cones melted as part of the installation, with every stage carefully managed to ensure quality and consistency.

The finished result reflects the skill and professionalism of the team on site — delivering durable, high-impact branding that meets both operational and aesthetic standards.

Supply & Installation of Loose Seating Around Front Entrance

We supplied and installed bespoke loose seating around the airport’s front entrance to create comfortable and inviting waiting areas for passengers and visitors. The seating featured high-grade Iroko timber – known for its durability and rich, natural finish – set atop robust, architecturally formed concrete bases. This combination offered both visual appeal and long-term weather resistance, perfectly suited to a high-traffic environment.

Installation of Stainless Steel Bumper/Foot Rails

To further improve pedestrian flow and protect key architectural features, we installed custom stainless steel bumper and foot rails. These were strategically positioned around the entrance and surrounding structural columns. Manufactured from premium-grade stainless steel, the rails provide both a sleek visual accent and practical protection from trolleys, luggage, and foot traffic, all while maintaining a modern aesthetic.
