Belfast Airport - Exterior Works

OHM Engineering was engaged to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the front entrance at Belfast International Airport. Our team delivered high-quality external improvements that aligned with the airport’s standards for public safety, durability, and contemporary design. The work included the following elements:

Runway Infrastructure – 3m³ Bolt Box Installation

Delivering 3m x 3m x 3m bolt boxes on a live runway at Belfast International Airport is no ordinary task. The environment alone raises the bar — with aircraft operating nearby and strict aviation regulations governing every movement on site.

This project was fully planned and coordinated prior to commencement, ensuring works could proceed safely and efficiently within an active runway setting.

The scope included:

  • Clearly marked and precision-cut excavations

  • Safe removal and disposal of spoil while navigating a live runway

  • Accurate frame setting and controlled concrete pours

  • Precise positioning of bolt boxes

  • Installation of fabricated, galvanised and painted heavy-duty protective barriers

Every stage of the works reflects the standards required for aviation infrastructure.

Key strengths demonstrated on this project:

  • Precision & Clean Execution – Neat cutting, controlled pours, and accurate setting ensure structural integrity and compliance.

  • Safety & Coordination – Operating plant, vehicles, and personnel in a live runway environment required meticulous planning and communication.

  • Long-Term Durability – Galvanised and painted barriers, cored holes, and fitted reinforcement cages ensure performance without compromise.

  • Professional Finish – Built not only to function, but to meet strict airport and aviation standards.

This project highlights OH&M’s capability to deliver complex infrastructure works in high-risk, high-regulation environments — where precision, safety, and reliability are non-negotiable.

Airside Branding Installation

Another WE project has been successfully completed to a high standard at Belfast International Airport by the OH&M team. The works involved specialist branding installation using hot metal application techniques, requiring precision, control, and strict adherence to safety procedures within a live airport environment. The process saw several hundred cones melted as part of the installation, with every stage carefully managed to ensure quality and consistency.

The finished result reflects the skill and professionalism of the team on site — delivering durable, high-impact branding that meets both operational and aesthetic standards.

Supply & Installation of Loose Seating Around Front Entrance

We supplied and installed bespoke loose seating around the airport’s front entrance to create comfortable and inviting waiting areas for passengers and visitors. The seating featured high-grade Iroko timber – known for its durability and rich, natural finish – set atop robust, architecturally formed concrete bases. This combination offered both visual appeal and long-term weather resistance, perfectly suited to a high-traffic environment.

Installation of Stainless Steel Bumper/Foot Rails

To further improve pedestrian flow and protect key architectural features, we installed custom stainless steel bumper and foot rails. These were strategically positioned around the entrance and surrounding structural columns. Manufactured from premium-grade stainless steel, the rails provide both a sleek visual accent and practical protection from trolleys, luggage, and foot traffic, all while maintaining a modern aesthetic.
